I began welding steel art about 6 years ago and it was my grandmothers love of lapidary that transformed my art into jewelry. I work with two types or steel of which both contain their own personality: Soft/Mild Steel (which I am slowly phasing out of) is relatively a soft metal to work with and has a brush matte look to it. It does have a tendency to tarnish after extended wear over time, although, customers still show me bracelets that still look new two years after the fact. My newest attention is the realm of stainless steel. It is hypoallergenic, non-tarnishing, virtually indestructible and has the look of platinum which can be polished into either a high mirror-like shine or a brushed matte look. The most beautiful fact of stainless is that I am able to custom make bracelets on the spot. Here's how you do it. First, choose from a variety of 30+ stones and shells from all over the world. Second, pick from different types bracelet band styles either with a mirror shine or a brushed matte feel. I have also been know to make special order bracelet bands that the customer has design him/her self. Third, find a size that fits your wrist (S, M, L). The bracelet is slightly adjustable. Fourth, give me about 10 minutes to set your stone or shell and give a final polish and voila! your own personalized stainless steel bracelet. I also sell Stone/Shell Pendants and plain Stainless Steel Pendants which complement the bracelet and are strung on a durable braided nylon cord which is adjustable to a choker or a necklace. |
